Defend From Extreme Partisanship: Protect the Blue Dot!
Despite the Nebraska Legislature’s structure being nonpartisan in order to best represent Nebraskans, some of our representatives are deep into party politics and would like to further silence the voices of those who oppose them. One way they are working to silence progressive voices in Nebraska is through enacting a “winner-take-all” system. This system is meant to destroy Nebraska’s “Blue Dot” area in Congressional District 2 that has turned out electoral votes for democratic presidential candidates including Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris.
This legislative session, Senator Lippincott (LD34) has introduced LB3 on behalf of Governor Pillen to switch to a winner-take-all system for electing presidential and vice-presidential candidates, awarding all electoral votes to the candidates who receive the highest number of votes in the state. If LB3 passes, it will effectively end Nebraska’s Blue Dot and further silence the voices of left-leaning residents.
A public hearing on LB3 has been scheduled for Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 1:30 PM in front of the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee in room 1507 at the Capitol. Online comments for the record must be submitted by 8 AM that morning. You can submit online comments on the Nebraska Legislature website located here.
