BALLOT MEASURE INITIATIVES
Along with efforts to repeal LB1402, Nebraskans are also working on petitions to legalize medical marijuana, get Nebraskans paid sick leave, and constitutionalize access to abortion care.
The deadline to submit signatures has passed and the Nebraska Secretary of State has until Aug. 12th to verify signatures and until Sept. 13th to certify the measure for the November ballot.
Marijuana - Make it Legal Already
Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana has turned in two petitions to get medical marijuana reform on the ballot. The Cannabis Business Times published this article on July 11, 2024 that provides more information.
Paid Sick Leave
‘The object of this petition is to enact a statute to provide eligible employees the right to earn paid sick time for personal or family health needs, to entitle those employed by employers with fewer than 20 employees to accrue and use up to 40 hours of earned paid sick time per year, to entitle those employed by employers with 20 or more employees to accrue and use up to 56 hours of earned paid sick time per year, to specify conditions for accruing and using earned paid sic time, to prohibit retaliation against an employee for exercising rights granted under the statute, to adopt certain notice and documentation requirements, and to establish enforcement powers and a civil cause of action for violations of the statute. ‘
